OCU Foundation Day

In 1880 the Osaka Commercial Training Institute was founded, marking the beginning of the present-day Osaka City University. It was established by sixteen influential business leaders of the time, headed by Tomoatsu Godai, widely regarded as the father of the modern Osaka economy and the founder of the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Stock Exchange. That event has now brought us to our 135th anniversary.

Osaka City University became a comprehensive university in 1949, receiving its current name. The official opening took place on 1 June and the OCU Foundation Day has been celebrated on this day ever since.

On this special day, I ask you for your continued support in our effort to build on our history, spirit and knowledge and push forward as a university offering education and research meeting the needs of society and leading the development of a global Osaka.
