On November 8, 2017, the bill for merger of Osaka City University and Osaka Prefecture University in April, 2019 went through Osaka Prefectural Assembly. On February 23, the bill was also passed in Osaka City Council.

The decision is that Osaka City University and Osaka Prefecture University will be run by newly established corporation. We think the decision is the first step for the establishment of new university and will go forward to prepare it with Osaka prefecture and Osaka city.

In the wake of the discussion of consolidation, both universities promote closer cooperation of various education programs.

Based on opinions from not only staffs and the current students in OCU but also stakeholder such as alumni, we are dedicated to be appealing new university with valuing both universities’ accumulated tradition.

Even after the two universities consolidate with one new university, Osaka City University and Osaka Prefecture University are going to exist, respectively. There is no impact on the current students. The admission exam will be conducted in the current system as Osaka City University. The students in Osaka City University will graduate from Osaka City University. The awarded degree will not be affected by this consolidation.
