Graduate School of Medicine/Medical School

The Osaka City University Medical School was founded by Osaka City in 1944 to grow up medical students to become doctors and practice medicine, with wisdom, blessing and bravery. Wisdom is essential for the treatment of patients, blessing for taking care, and bravery for doing their best for them. Medical School, Graduate School and University Hospital are situated in twin buildings with 18 stories connected with each other by a bridge. They are located in the center of Osaka City (Abeno campus) that is just 20 minutes away from JR Osaka Station and also from the main campus in Sugimoto. We have more than 2,500 daily outpatients and 1,009 beds in the area of 78,000㎡ in the University Hospital. Medical School, Graduate School and University Hospital play important roles in basic medical sciences and practice in medicine as a leading medical center in Osaka City. We have reorganized Graduate School into two courses, the medical science and the clinical medicine courses, to promote the research activities in basic and clinical sciences and to match the need of the modern society in the new millennium. Two courses are well organized and interrelated with each other. In addition to the Graduate Course, we have introduced a master course in medicine in 2001, which was organized for nurses, pharmacists, clinical technicians, and other people who are interested in learning medical sciences and are working in the medical fields. Much information on current medical topics is accessible to the people living or working in the Osaka City through lectures and the media such as videos and home pages. These activities are maintained by both Medical School and Osaka City Medical Foundations.
