As a result of significant advances in both techniques and technologies in the field of medical science, Japan’s health care environment has been experiencing rapid changes. These same advances have given Japan a lengthened average life span as well as a declining birth rate. The demand for nurses with capabilities to make precise observations and to provide exact assessment and skilled care was increased not only in conventional health care institutions, but also in community or home health care setting.
Osaka City University Graduate School of Nursing/ School of Nursing, opened specially to meet these needs, has a purpose of not only teaching fundamental nursing sciences and specialized nursing care skills, but also nurturing the total person who can respect quality of lives of clients. In accordance with this principle, the school has developed a unique curriculum which is particularly useful in dealing with the complex problems our society is facing, such as creating a viable health care environment in an increasingly stressful modern society; a health care environment which takes into account the needs of elders as well as young people, focusing on the common thread of humanity and health that we all share. The need for keeping abreast of the latest developments in international nursing is also emphasized as Japan moves to integrate further into the global health care community as health care leaders.
Students who complete the course offered by this school will be qualified to take the license examination required for practice as registered nurses and public health nurses, and also be able to go on to graduate schools or move on to school nurse or nurse midwife courses.
Osaka City University Graduate School of Nursing, established in 2008 including master and doctor of philosophy program, has an aspiration to carry out further research into nursing science.
