135th Anniversary celebration activities: Indonesia court dance and gamelan performance
The OCU Global Exchange Office, in cooperation with the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Osaka and the Special Region of Yogyakarta, proudly present an Indonesian Court Dance and Gamelan performance on Sunday 30 August 2015, at the Sugimoto Campus Tanaka Memorial hall.
Gamelan is traditional Indonesian ensemble music consisting principally of copper percussion instruments.
It often musically accompanies dance and theatre performances. For this special performance dancers and musicians from the former capital of Yogyakarta in Central Java will visit Japan. They will perform elegant traditional dances from the Yogyakarta court, together with the Kansai music ensemble MargaSari. Professor Shin Nakagawa of the OCU Graduate School of Literature and Human Sciences will explain the dance and music to the audience.
We invite everybody to come and experience the tranquil and graceful sounds of the gamelan court music.
