Music, Art and Culture Celebration day of Thailand
OCU has had a longstanding and close relation with Chulalongkorn University in Thailand for many years, emphasized by the opening of the OCU Bangkok Office located in the Chulalongkorn University Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts last year. This week a group of lecturers from the Chulalongkorn University Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts is visiting OCU for an academic exchange project. As part of their visit, a special event was organized at the OCU Global Village on 2 June 2016 to celebrate the music, art and culture of Thailand.
Professor Bussakorn Binson kicked off the event with an introduction of Chulalongkorn University, its strengths, top class facilities and ties with OCU, followed by the fascinating and colorful lecture ‘Introduction to Music of the 4 regions of Thailand and New Compositions from Nan’ by Dr. Pornprapit Phoasavadi. The highlight of the afternoon however was the mesmerizing concert by the lecturers’ string ensemble, playing two beautiful compositions.
The participants then had a chance to take part in a workshop, showing them how to play the angklung, a Thai musical instrument, and perform a dance, accompanied by the music of the ensemble.
We thank the visitors from Chulalongkorn University for their great introduction to the music, art and culture of Thailand.
