Cooking with President 2018 – Soba noodles making
“Cooking with President 2018 Spring Special” was held at the Global Village in the Sugimoto Campus during lunch time on Friday 11 May. It was the 5th “Cooking with President” held in this campus.
The theme was “soba, buckwheat noodles”. President Arakawa took initiative in having a demonstration of making buckwheat noodles from scratch for 40 minutes and the authentic soba was served to our international students. The international students observed the process (“mizumawashi” meaning mixing the flour, buckwheat flour and water, “nobashi” meaning rolling out the kneaded dough and “kiri” meaning cutting) with interest.
After the demonstration five international students experienced “soba making”. Process of “cutting” was so hard that they had a lot of troubles cutting the dough into small strips. But they enjoyed their first experience of making soba. After making soba, they all boiled their own handmade soba and enjoyed eating it.
