Outbreak of COVID-19 at OCU (as of 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 1)

4 cases (5 people) of new coronavirus infection in our university. 

1. Student at Sugimoto Campus (20s, male, lives in Osaka City) 

〈Progress

Saturday, November 14: Dinner with six students, including the student in question, off campus.
Monday, November 16: Attended a lab at school. Had a fever in the evening and stayed home the next day.
Friday, November 20: Took a PCR test.
Sunday, November 22: Found positive. 

〈Contact density at OCU〉

The five students who were present on Saturday, November 14 were in close contact with the student in question. To date, they have not shown any subjective symptoms and are scheduled to undergo a PCR test in accordance with the instructions of the health center. They will remain at home until Saturday, November 28. 

The health of the students and faculty members who were in contact on Monday, November 16, is being checked in sequence. It has been confirmed that no one will be allowed to enter the university after Tuesday, November 17. 

On Thursday, November 26, one of the students (male, 20s, living in Yao City) who was identified as a high-density contact person was found to be infected with the new coronavirus. It has been confirmed that the student has not entered the university since October, and there has been no contact or infections on campus. Apart from this student, the four other students who have been identified as high contact persons have tested negative. 

2. Student at Abeno Campus (20s, male, living in Osaka City)

Thursday, November 19: 37.9°C fever, stayed home.
Friday, November 20: Visited the hospital for a blood test.
Tuesday, November 24: Blood tests revealed a viral infection. Underwent a PCR test and was found to be positive.

The student in question came to school on Tuesday, November 17 for training, during which he wore a mask in a ventilated the room and kept his distance from others. Faculty and students with whom he had contact have not felt ill. No one has entered the university after Wednesday, November 18. 

3. Student at Abeno Campus (20s, male, living in Moriguchi City) 

〈Progress〉

Sunday, November 22 - Monday, November 23: Traveled with 7 other students.
Tuesday, November 24: Arrived at school for practical training. After returning home in the evening, had a fever of 38.6°C and went to the hospital. Underwent a PCR test and was found to be positive.

The seven students who traveled with the student in question from Sunday, November 22 to Monday, November 23 were in close contact. To date, these seven students have not had any symptoms, but are scheduled to undergo PCR testing.

The students who were at school on Tuesday, November 24 for a practical training session all wore a mask in a ventilated the room and kept their distance from others. Faculty and students have no felt ill. 

4. Student at Sugimoto Campus (late teens, male, living in Osaka City) 

〈Progress〉

Tuesday, November 24: Attended a face-to-face class.
Wednesday, November 25 and Thursday, November 26: Continuous throat discomfort (normal fever).
Friday, November 27: Throat discomfort subsides, joint pain starts (normal fever).
Saturday, November 28: A fever of 38.6°C in addition to joint pain. Consults a public health center; medical attention is recommended.
Sunday, November 29: Visited a medical institution for a PCR test.
Monday, November 30: Tested positive.

All faculty members and students were wearing masks, in a ventilated room, and used hand sanitizer during classes. A result of the epidemiological survey conducted by the health center states there was no person with high levels of contact.  

Our entire university will continue to work on safety management to prevent the spread of future infections. 

We hope for a speedy recovery of the infected persons and ask for your understanding and consideration for the human rights of infected people and their families.
